Online therapy with Connect Couples Therapy

Distance and scheduling don’t have to stand between you and good couples therapy. Our online sessions follow the same structure as our in-person work — a joint intake, individual sessions with each partner, and a feedback session where we build a plan together.

Every therapist who sees clients online is trained in the Gottman Method, and several bring additional certifications in emotionally focused therapy, addiction recovery, sex therapy, and premarital counseling.

If you’re already working with us in Charlotte or Carefree and need to shift to virtual, you don’t have to start over. Most of our clinicians are licensed across multiple states and can follow you online without disrupting the progress you’ve made.

What to expect in online couples therapy

Your first session: Both partners join the call together for a joint intake. Your therapist will walk through your relationship history, what’s bringing you in, and what you’re hoping to change.

Individual sessions: Your therapist meets with each partner separately. These conversations stay confidential between each partner and the therapist, and give each person space to speak openly.

Feedback session: Your therapist brings the threads together, shares what they’ve observed, and walks you through a treatment plan built around your specific goals.

Ongoing sessions: Most couples meet weekly or every other week. Some clients begin online and transition to in-person sessions at our Charlotte or Carefree office as schedules allow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the first online session actually look like?

Your first session is a joint intake — both partners on the video call with your therapist. You’ll need a private space where both of you can speak openly, whether that’s the same room or two separate locations. Your therapist will send a secure session link before you meet.

If you want to know more about what to expect before you book, here’s what a first therapy session typically looks like →

Which video call platform do you use, and what do we need to get started?

We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform — no special software to download. You’ll receive a session link before each appointment. A device with a camera and microphone and a reliable internet connection is all you need.

Some couples join from the same room; others find that starting in separate spaces makes it easier to speak openly, especially early in the process.

Can we start online and meet in person later at your Charlotte or Carefree office?

Yes. Many clients begin with online sessions for scheduling convenience and shift to in-person when they’re ready — or come to Charlotte or Carefree specifically for a Couples Intensive. Because most of our therapists are licensed across multiple states, you can make that shift without changing therapists.
