Dr. Cheney has been in the military working with soldiers and families for 16 years as a Chaplain & Marriage & Family Therapist. He spent 26 months in Iraq and Afghanistan in Army units engaged in direct ground combat. He took his experiences in combat and caring for soldiers and their families and combined them in his work with service members, veterans, first responders, and their family members.

This training is designed to provide education and confidence when providing care for our brave soldiers, veterans, and first responders. Counseling soldiers, veterans, and first responders is an honor and needed service, but many therapists feel insecure and inadequate. They share they don’t know how to truly help when they aren’t familiar with military culture or trauma specific to these professionals and their families. This training provides the information needed to confidently help these brave men and women.

• Describe culture specific to the military and first responders
• Describe the struggles inherent in serving as a soldier and first responder
• Describe post traumatic stress, moral injury, and trauma specific to the military and first responders • Discuss practical strategies for working with soldiers, veterans, and first responders
